  • PLEASURE

NECTAR desires to expand our capacity for pleasure.

Our pleasure has been historically commodified, manipulated, and politicised. We function under the notion that pleasure exists in scarcity, or that we only deserve to access it conditionally (if we are worthy, beautiful, have worked hard enough, etc). We develop smart and creative adaptations to our life experiences, our traumas and our sociocultural conditionings that shape us into cognitive-analytical lifestyles that separate us from ourselves, each other and our environments, which ultimately promotes numbness.

We are, however, *pleasure-bodies. Our biology is a collective of sensory organs that guide us toward that which feels good and away from that which feels bad. In its purest, unadulterated and uncolonised form, our minds are the processing centre for this information, tasked with the responsibility of choice, for the evolutionary goal of survival.

Our pleasure and our pain are important for us to experience, release and process; for without them our choices don’t truly belong to us. To feel wholly, is to experience somatic authenticity, and to express and act from this place without fear or shame is true liberation.

It is our goal at NECTAR to promote wholeness in all experiences, where pleasure becomes a foundational ground that we can all readily access.

*Pleasure bodies is term used by writer, activist, and black feminist, Adrienne Maree Brown, Author of ‘Pleasure Activism: the Politics of Feeling Good’.
